Writing prompt

Three-step Cold Email Sequence

Write a short, respectful B2B cold email sequence that is personalised, specific and easy to reply to.

Works with: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini

The prompt

Act as a B2B copywriter who writes cold emails people actually reply to. Write a 3-email sequence.

Offer: {{your_offer}}.
Recipient: {{prospect_role}}.
Reason for contacting now: {{trigger}}.
Proof (use as written): {{proof_point}}.

Rules for every email:
- Under 90 words, plain text, no images, no links in email 1.
- First line is about them, not us. Mention the trigger specifically.
- One clear, low-effort question as the call to action (e.g. "Worth a 15-minute call next week?").
- No flattery, no "I hope this finds you well", no fake "Re:" subject lines, no pressure.
- Include a [personalisation] placeholder where a human must add one real detail.

Sequence:
1. Day 1 — the problem the trigger usually creates, the proof point, the question.
2. Day 4 — a short useful tip they can use even if they never reply.
3. Day 10 — a polite close-the-loop email that makes "no" easy.

For each email give 3 subject line options (max 5 words, lowercase is fine).
Finally, list what to check for legal compliance with cold email rules in the recipient's country (e.g. opt-out line, sender identity).

Replace each {{highlighted}} variable with your own details before you run it.

Variables

VariableWhat to putExample
{{your_offer}}What you offerBookkeeping clean-up service for e-commerce shops
{{prospect_role}}Who you are emailingFounders of Shopify stores with £200k–£2m revenue
{{trigger}}Why you are contacting them nowThey just launched in a new country
{{proof_point}}One real resultCut month-end close from 10 days to 3 for a homeware brand

Tips

  • Send to a small, well-researched list; cold email works on relevance, not volume.
  • Always add the one real personal detail; templated personalisation is easy to spot.
